Travelocity code - $200 off/person - resulting in pretty cheap Vegas packages

Update: Looks like this coupon code has reached it's maximum number of redemptions.
--------

There's a very interesting Travelocity code making it's way around the web at the moment. It's resulting in some pretty great prices, such as 3 night Vegas packages (flight + hotel) over a weekend for $271/person after all taxes & fees (which I'll show in the example below).

Here's what I've learned about it so far, and my tutorial for taking advantage of it.

1. You need to make sure you use Travelocity.com and not Travelocity.ca

To ensure this, you can just go to this link: http://www.travelocity.com/resolve/in/# and select the American site. Put a checkmark beside 'Remember this selection'

2. Now that we're on Travelocity's site we need to think of a destination where taking $200 off of a package price (per person) will result in an amazing price.

Important: The package must be a minimum of 3 nights.

Las Vegas is an obvious first thought, so let's try that.

- Select 'Flight + Hotel'
- From YYC to LAS
- Depart Nov 1, Return Nov 4
- Change the number of adults from 2 to 1. We're doing this because we want to use the code twice, and take $200 off per person each time.
- Hit Search Now

3. Now that we're on the results page, let's sort the results by price. It looks like the Super 8 Las Vegas package is currently going for $471/person after taxes & fees. Click on 'Select & Continue'.

4. Scroll down to 'Book Now' and click on that.

Scroll down to the bottom and click on 'Continue'.

5. Now scroll down to Step 3, under 'Review the price' and look for the box that says 'I have a promotional code'. It looks like this:

enter the following code:

NFB2012

and hit 'Apply'

6. Now $200 is removed from the price and it looks like this...

7. After booking, you would repeat this process for the next person.

Here are my thoughts, based on my experience with the Expedia code (which some of you may remember).

- Be aware that one risk is that you book one package with the code, and then Travelocity pulls the plug on the code before you can book the next person. It could happen if the code goes viral. Apparently there is a redemption limit of 3500 bookings.

- You might wish to use separate names and credit cards for each booking, so that Travelocity can't claim you tried to use the code more than once. If you have a Travelocity account, I'd probably book one using the account, and the other one as a 'guest'.

- This code looks to work for all flight + hotel packages, not just Vegas. I was just using Vegas as an example as it's typically one of the more popular and cheaper destinations.

- It doesn't matter if you end up with a room that you never use. The hotel doesn't care.

Here are the full terms and conditions of the code:

The promotional code (the Promo Code) for $200 is valid between 12:01 a.m. Central Time on July 2, 2012 and 11:59 p.m. Central Time on August 4, 2012 (the Promotion Period) or until it reaches the redemption limit of 3,500 redemptions. Your use of the Promo Code on the www.travelocity.com Web site (the Site) is subject to the Travelocity User Agreement and Privacy Policy. The Promo Code is valid only for qualifying purchases made on the Site. A qualifying purchase means a three-night or longer Hotel+Flight Vacation Package which is offered on the Site during the Promotion Period. Travel dates must be between July 2,2012 and December 31, 2012. Qualifying Hotel+Flight Vacation Package purchase requires a minimum spend of $200 and should be booked immediately following your qualifying air booking.

If you find a great deal using this code, help out your fellow traveler and comment on it here, or share it on Facebook.

Good luck!

It says you have to book them separate.

Traviesa: Yes, you have to book it separately to take $200 off each time.

Bish: Still appears to be working. There should be a spot to enter the code even if it had expired.

If you book it separately there is only 1 person on the hotel reservation. How do you add additional travellers to the room?

    Has Chris_Myden been here?
       Chris_Myden on July 25th, 2012

Julie: You just book another package with another room. The second person stays in your room, the second room goes unused.

Looks like October 1-4 to Vegas can be had for $195/person after taxes (flight + hotel)

Thanks Chris! Just booked Vegas flight + hotel at MGM for 426 in December.
I just wasn't sure if the hotel would get sticky about the 2nd person wouldn't be a registered guest (since the 2nd person is booked at another hotel).

Another interesting thing I've noticed is that if you use the 'advanced search' options you can book a package with a flight to wherever (let's say Kelowna), but combine it with a super cheap hotel in, let's say, Thailand.

The end result is a flight to Kelowna for $73 roundtrip after taxes, and a hotel room in Thailand that never gets used.

    Hi Chris,
I am trying your hotel trick but it seems to always only find hotels in my destination city regardless of my hotel city selection? I am using the advanced search and checking off the "I prefer to stay in a city other than my destination airport." checkbox.
    Any tips?
    Thanks!!

    1) DO NOT CALL TRAVELOCITY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! The less attention to this, the better.

    2) Do not book a hotel outside of your destination. Once they realize that people are booking hotels in Thailand rather than in the destination, they may shut down the whole coupon.

Mei - I would just go to the hotel, tell them you aren't going to check in and see if they will waive that fee. You can even tell them they can sell that room if they want. No guarantees it works, but it's worth a shot.
Also, do the crappy off strip hotels even have resort fees?

@Lea Ann - shouldn't be a problem. If you are concerned, just say you lost your key card and they will give you another one. Then you have a key for each of you, that way you can get on the elevator if you are separated etc.

@CP What an utterly idiotic piece of advise. Why don't you call your credit card company and tell it that you have lost your credit card. They will issue a new one. That way you will have 2 credit cards ;).

@deal guru...calm down. There really is no need to be rude to someone else's suggestions. If you don't like it, perhaps offer an alternative. If you're having a bad day, just wait till tomorrow to comment. It helps people to want to offer ideas when they aren't worried about mean people responding!

    Has dealguru been here?
       dealguru on August 1st, 2012

@Jenn ..I beg to differ. There is a big need to be rude to idiotic suggestions so there are less of them. By saying that I am not admitting to being rude.
@CP Has it ever occurred to you that the "lost" key card might (with a 99.99% probability) get deactivated and won't work?

    Has @dealguru been here?
       @dealguru on August 1st, 2012

@Mei If you don't check in and give them your credit card, there is no way they can charge you anything.
@Lea Ann, Yes you do need to be concerned. They do random checks in the middle of the night to make sure only 1 person stays in single occupancy room. Everyone else in that room gets shot on the spot.
On a more serious note, theoretically there might be an "extra guests" policy, but it is never enforced, not in Vegas anyways.:)

I doubt they will do a full cancellation right away. They are probably waiting for those people who did attend the conference and who received the email to call in so they get make sure their reservations aren't wrongfully cancelled.

I do wonder what the cost would be to Travelocity to cancel this though. These are all confirmed flights and pre-paid hotels. I know airlines won't be happy. And of course I'd expect a full refund if they do cancel my booking.

I just got off the phone with travelocity. While they tried to convince me that my trip was good I am a liitle worried. One thing that really bugs me is that both the rep and the supervisor claimed that they had never heard of the nfb2012 code before. Do they really expect me to believe crap like that?? Also their reasoning for the cancellation email was that it was part of some system upgrade! I am still trying wrap my mind around that! "I am so sorry, sir, but we were doing a system upgrade and as a result of that upgrade you received a cancellation email"- I have not heard something as retarded in quite some time.

Hearing from someone that after talking to a supervisor at Travelocity, that full refunds will be given. The cancellation fees are automated to reflect the fees that are stated on your original purchase. However we should see them reversed.

The reason why there is such a disconnect in information is probably because the cancellations are probably being carried out by coroporate in the US (one by one), while customer service in India won't know anything about the pending cancellations until it shows up on their system.

Yea Reg, I got something similar. This email being generated is their system cancelling everything so they can get off the hook with the airlines/hotels asap.

The rep I talked to said that I can expect a full refund within 48 hours and I can expect another email detailing that exchange.

NOTE: MAKE SURE YOU CALL AND GET THEM TO CONFIRM THIS FOR YOU. EXPECT NOTHING LESS THAN A FULL REFUND OF THE MONEY PAID FOR THE BOOKING.

My booking wasnt until december so I wasnt sweating it so much but I feel for those who had more immediate plans as the uncertainty is going to be a pain.

I also received an email this morning saying my trip was cancelled.
Called them up and the Rep on the line confirmed and emailed me the reservation that it was not cancelled.
    I"m like ok then.
Now I just received an email saying that my trip was cancelled and i'll be issued a refund within a few weeks (what 3 weeks???)
and the cancellation fee was basically the same amount of the booking fee.
    so my refund was $33.34
I"m like what is this crap you cancel my trip and take my money.
This is a scam or what?
I called and basically the India rep told me they have a team of experts working on this matter and we will get back to you within 24-48 hours.

Call the 1888 US Number in your number (it works in Canada). I've been promised a call back within 48 hours to clear it up. At the very least everyone should get their money back. I recommend that everyone tell them that they need to put the details of the promo in at booking or they should honour all of them. Don't back down on your refund. If you paid for the cancellation fees, tell them you want that money back too. They cancelled the booking, not us, all monies should be returned.

Also received confirmation that my trip to Vegas in December is cancelled. Not happy.....Travelocity will never get any business from me again. Still have flight booked through West Jet but Travelocity confirmed that my trip is cancelled. Of course if I paid $200.00 ($600.00 actually there are 3 of us) then they wouldn't cancel. They are waiting for people to phone to see if they are willing to pay an extra $200 before they cancel their flight, hotel etc.. I say no way!!!! A deal is a deal!!!! They should honor their promo they offered, it was their mistake not ours. How can they cancel a trip that has already been paid for. Unbelievable......

Just called Tavelocity again (used the 1-888 number) and ya! I got screwed. They canceled my entire trip. If you were to call the airline or hotel, they won't even have you in their records.

They said the reason they NFB Promo Code couldn't work was because they couldn't verify that I attended some Blind Conference in the States. (Some of you may know what I am talking about if you received an email)

I asked what they can do for me since it's they're fault and they tried to offer me the same package at a higher price. Told them no thanks and I want a full refund. Totally not worth it. Not even worth trying to make a deal with the agent when you call. They'll try to find a way to screw you over regardless.

They said that I will get a full refund without charges in the next 7-10 business days so keep an eye if you plan to cancel. Call your credit card company and be sure that credit is there and you won't get charged. I'm going to rebook with my air miles. haha.

Ok, so they took my money, confirmed my trip and now they are telling me it was cancelled. How can they do this? Completely unacceptable. This was there mistake and they should be held responsible to honor their mistake if it actually was. We should be able to do something about this. Any ideas as to what to do to Travelocity to make them pay for their mistake? We can't let them do this to us. I bought what they were selling and they accepted and confirmed so therefore it should be a done deal,

It's too bad the website administrator here at YYC deals took down all the posts about this code being strictly for blind peoples' use. I think those posts could've tipped people off to do more due diligence in investigating the code, and helped avoid some bookings that will now be cancelled.

@Jeremy - You are not correct in your "being strictly for blind peoples' use" statement. The code was for NFB members. Anyone can support them and become a member-at-large for a small annual fee. You just have to be a supporter of their organization.

@s - Okay, my mistake. Maybe its a good thing they took down all those posts then.

I was just worried that most people here booked not knowing that the code had restrictions on it. But from your post, I can see that there was quite an awareness so most people will probably be okay with their bookings.

I have booked....been cancelled with a cancelation fee....and finally recieved a full refund. I don't want a refund, I want my trip. We were going anyway, and saw this code to save some money. Now our flights ( 7 bookings) are not available. I think Travelocity should have given us an option to pay the $200 and keep the reservation. It would appear they have no concern withs it's customer. If they can cancel my trip without warning.....why use them.

I will never use Travelocity for personal or business again.

       Dan on August 8th, 2012

"I will never use Travelocity for personal or business again."
You say that now but you will. We all will. Which is the reason North American airlines have figured out they don't have to offer any customer service. I bet most of us have had a nasty experience and sworn off Air Canada before. And yet when the next trip comes and Westjet doesn't have good connections or costs $40 more we go back to Air Canada only to get screwed over again. Travelocity will be the same. They don't care about screwing us over because we don't care enough to actually stop using them.

Anyone have any luck getting Travelocity to just cancel the discount and still let you keep the tickets? I'd like to cancel the hotel too.

    Has CP been here?
       CP on August 8th, 2012

@Dan - although I agree with you, I think booking sites are easier to avoid than airlines. In Canada you have the choice between WestJet and AirCanada (with exceptions) and you are right, if one offers better times or cheaper deal, we will go with it. However in the travel booking industry there are many, many more players and therefore people could avoid Travelocity and still continue to book travel on the cheap.

I really have to wonder why there has not been any sort of response from Chris at all since the beginning of the fiasco. I understand that the blame should be on Travelocity for their inability to handle this situation properly. But why nothing from him at all?

I must ask: why was this little stipulation about the code actually being for the conference and / or the members not at all mentioned when this was posted? This news was possibly sent out to hundreds of Calgarians when it was first realized. Perhaps a good portion knew about it - but not all. Other posts from the others that did mention it were deleted??

I am all for deals, but not at the expense of particular groups. Now this 'great deal' will take up possibly weeks to clear up. Was this really worth it?

@Catherine, you are right, really wasn't worth it. Lets never try to book a discounted trip again and blame someone who delivers rock solid deals to us on a consistent basis.

Only blame that should be thrown is at Travelocity. They suck.

    Has Catherine been here?
       Catherine on August 10th, 2012

You are missing the point. I have no issues on the other discounted flights. Everything else was fine.

Expedia's mix up from about 2 years ago ($300 off code) was fine. This code was not geared towards any particular group.

KLM's (as well as other airlines) had promotional deals, which made sense. They made it widely available on Facebook and other social media. Anyone and everyone was encouraged to buy.

You are right, Travelocity does suck. Yet, before last Friday, how many readers knew that they were using a code that was meant for the blind supporters?

I have to agree with other posters that Travelocity can burn in hell.

I remember a problem almost exactly like this 2 or 3 years ago with them, not honoring a promo or coupon code. The difference is Department Of Transportation rules in the USA and Canada have changed in that time, making it illegal to do exacty what they have done here: cancel a ticketed flight that was paid for that requires a rebooking at a higher price.

I share other posters feelings that this was the first and last purchase for me with Travelocity. The exception is if another error, near freebie, or money losing (for them) deal comes around. Other than that, other businesses will get my dollars.

I never have bothered with TV before, the booking engine is far inferior compared to expedia or kayak. I've used expedia for 20+ purchases in the past for flights, hotels, rental cars, packages, and have never had a problem. I have also used Hotwire, Priceline, Orbitz and Hotels.com too on occasion when a promo code or special discount was offered.

Never had problems with promotions being reneged, trips cancelled, communication ignored, and refunds botched with anyone else before. Travelocity did that perfectly.

@Psx - I had 2 trips booked (LAS and SAN). The Vegas trip was a cheapo motel and it got cancelled. The San Diego one was once again a cheapo motel, but it is still a go (at this point). I think it is all random as a buddy of mine also booked Vegas (a nicer hotel, $700 trip) and his got cancelled, and I booked my wife under San Diego in a nicer hotel and it is still a go. So it looks totally random to me at this point.
