How cheap will this flight to Vancouver get? A Dutch auction experiment
Charter airline GoJumpOn is doing something novel by offering a Dutch auction on a one-way Calgary to Vancouver flight.
Basically, it works like this...
GoJumpOn has 149 seats to fill on a one-way flight from Calgary to Vancouver, that departs Friday August 30 @ 11:30 AM
Between now and midnight, the price will drop every hour, as per the following schedule:
As you can see, by 11 PM MST tonight, the flight price will theoretically have dropped to a pretty ridiculous price of just $79.00 after taxes
I say theoretically, because that will only happen if GoJumpOn hasn't sold out all of their seats. And that's the risk of playing the waiting game in a Dutch auction.
For a full list of details, and to book the flight, you can head to the following link:
Kudos to GoJumpOn (once again) for trying something fresh and interesting in the world of Canadian airfares. I think they'd be the first to admit they don't know what the outcome of this experiment will be.
As for getting home, you might want to look at pairing this with the Air Transat flight from Vancouver to Calgary on Monday, September 2nd, which is currently at $161 after taxes.
Assuming there are seats left at 11 PM tonight, you could potentially fly to Vancouver and back for $240 roundtrip after taxes, over the Labour Day long weekend, which is a pretty great price these days.
However, I wouldn't book the return flight until you were sure that GoJumpOn has sold enough seats for the Calgary -> Vancouver flight to be a go.
